Sichuan pepper. A dusty echo of nostalgia. From herbalist to perfumer, I left my path of the “plant“

medical”, to embark on a new path, perfume as “olfactory memory”. Finally I braided

spiritual notes, to create a woody, resinous and deep base, Benzoin, Vetiver, Patchouli, Sandalwood and

A Yuzu Lemonade on a hot August afternoon.

On the island there are psychedelic places and scents, sublime atmospheres, which only the heat can give, the heat of the wind, the light scent of citrus fruits, yuzu lemonades, day and night, on the horizon.
In the same year I returned to Sicily and Japan after a long time, it was the summer of ’23.
The lemonades at the old port, the children ran in the sunny streets of the kasbah, the warm wind on the beaches, a sip of bitterness every evening, dear friends from distant worlds.
I walked through the light streets of Mazara del Vallo, my hometown, I watched the sun hit my body, my joy rediscovering childhood. It was all there, my land, my love, my friends, my most intimate ties. Isola is a state of mind of the human being, it is perceiving that water exists all around, and that the pure element keeps us isolated, but protects us. It was the same summer, I walked the Japanese streets, taking refuge in the shadows of quiet gardens, I listened to the weather, I looked at the warm August sun.
In Isola I told my love for life, the contrast and union of two different cultures.
Isola is a citrus perfume, which tells in the notes of Lemon and Yuzu two important places in my life, in my memory.

Isola is a sparkling scent, like a can of Yuzu drunk in summer in the streets of Tokyo. Isola is like a fresh lemonade drunk in the Sicilian summer heat, looking at the sea on the horizon, full of lights and reflections, our happy gaze, bathed by the sun and the saline water of the sea. Isola is my turn towards the light. Fresh notes and absence of darkness, this is Meo’s great olfactory revolution in this perfume, the great challenge. Telling the happiness of an unforgettable summer, through a fresh Yuzu lemonade. I had a desire, to make this feeling infinite. Now everything is true.

What is darker than my heart?
What is darker than my thought?

I don’t see anything around me anymore, is it night?
I don’t remember seeing the sunset coming. It’s all dark around the house.

I was small when I prayed to the angels, I was small when I believed in heaven. I would like to cover everything with this darkness, I would like to close my eyes and smell only its scent.
When I walk, I feel only the past, as a pain to be expiated, as a distant memory and around me only darkness.

There are corners of our home that we forget, there are people in our lives that we forget, we place unknown objects, noises on them, like memories erased forever.

Darkness, history and scent

It’s night, it’s dark and our mind goes through wandering thoughts.
Buio tells the moments in which we look for a light in ourselves.
Darkness is a place, where we live our feelings.
Darkness is the time of insomnia, in which giant monsters will discover themselves in the light of day as small beings.
Darkness is a hope, mine, to let the darkness abandon me.
It’s night, it’s dark, as far as I can see.

There were days when my thought was everywhere, slowly rotating in my head and then letting itself be stolen by time and falling prisoner of events. The first accord born in this perfume was between Cade oil, Carrot seeds, a smoky incense, Cashmeran and Suederal. There was born the courage to change the course of my thoughts, their existence, my life. In those days, when this perfume was born, I read books on Shinto and listened to Nils Frahm. I weighed each raw material as if they were necessary and fundamental words, as when you look for the right words to tell something important about your life to a person; It was my story, my path, in the dark.
Smoky and dusty notes open the life of this fragrance, an incense that contains centuries of stories, deep, mysterious and intimate, the powder of Carrot seeds and the dark note of Cade. A dark heart, where the darkest part of Osmanthus and Peony find refuge among the notes of Geranium and Magnolia, protected by Labdanum absolute and Amber notes. The base on which this story I have told you rests is built on the notes of Vetiver, Patchouli, Cedarwood and Sandalwood, Musk and Leather.
Here, I think I have said everything.
