There is a place in the desert where the air dries the breath and the sun blinds those who dare to enter it.

Among rocks and silent dunes still stand the ruins of Amarna, guardians of ancient memories. It is here, thousands of years ago, that a powerful and mysterious city stood, called by its creator “The Horizon of Aten”.

A place born to break with the beliefs of an entire people and consecrate themselves to a new God. A faceless God, roaring and seething with power, who did not need the darkness of the temples because he lived in the very light of the Sun.

At the center of that new world was a man. A pharaoh powerful enough to challenge gods worshipped for centuries and the authority of their priests, visionary enough to build a new capital, and so determined to transform his world that he even changed the name he was born with.

From Amenhotep IV to Akhenaten. The pharaoh, whom history would remember as the Heretic, had temples erected open to the sky, where the Sun could directly reach the altars. Art also changed its face: the depictions featured the pharaoh, Nefertiti and their daughters, gathered under Aten, in unusual family scenes for the Egyptian royal tradition.

Above them, the fiery disc stretched its rays like arms, ending in hands holding out the Ankh, a symbol of life.

Light didn’t just illuminate the world. It gave it life.

In the Great Hymn to Aten, the Sun awakens men, animals and nature. When it disappears, the world rests in darkness; when it returns, every creature comes back to life.

Yet, after the death of the pharaoh, his city was abandoned and his revolution erased. Ruins, fragments and memories remained of that world.

But the Sun continued to rise.

It is from the earth that still blooms today under that same light, among fruits, spices, flowers, woods and resins, that AKHENATON was born.

Not the scent of the Sun, but of the life that takes shape under it.
