Mono No Aware is a key term in Japanese culture and loosely translated means something like the appreciation of things/objects due to the realization of their impermanence. The perfumer discovered this term while reading Sally Mann’s autobiography, and was immediately struck by it. In the past, he had already experienced that particular feeling of joy mixed with melancholy that you get when you understand that everything is temporary. This awareness pushes us to live every moment intensely, creating a continuous cycle between attachment and letting go.
