“In 1991, Bret Easton Ellis published his iconic novel American Psycho, sparking a storm of controversy. The story revolves around investment banker Patrick Bateman and can be read as a social commentary on a society driven by materialism and superficiality. To me, American Psycho is a metaphor for the dark side of the American dream. The book has had a major impact on pop culture and has gained fame and prestige over the years. In creating American Psycho EdP, I drew on some key elements of the book and its subsequent film adaptation released in 2000: Bateman’s vanity rituals, sparkling water, frozen sorbet, and Wall Street in the 1980s.”
